In the real world, methane would be released and measuring its percentage would be very difficult and unpleasant. In our virtual world we are able to poke the rumen with a syringe and see how much methane is expelled into the syringe.
 

The value for methane is measured by where the grey matter lines up on the syringe.

Count the number of lines on the syringe.
