Eligibility

All students in grades 10-12 with an interest in marketing and business.  Although there are no course requirements for the club, DECA is a co-curricular activity and most students are either enrolled in a Business Ed course or have taken/are enrolled the Marketing I: Advertising and Promotion. Given the large size of the club, group meetings are infrequent.  Information is largely disseminated to the membership through the DECA officers and class representatives.

Description

The purpose of DECA is to develop vocational understanding, civic consciousness, social intelligence, and leadership ability through participation in marketing related activities.  DECA members participate in competition that may involve role-playing, written tests, and/or research projects.  Regional competition generally takes place in January and those students who win become eligible to compete in the three-day DECA NJ State Conference.  The state winners progress to the International DECA Competition.  To further apply business principles and practices, the members of the club sponsor fund-raising projects.  Proceeds from these endeavors help to pay for dues and club operations or are donated to worthy charities.
